Atticus

Bold in name and style, Atticus is a company based on two ideals - simplicity and utility. Luckily, beauty falls somewhere in between. They really do uphold their (and Goethe's) concept that the ideal of beauty is simplicity. Their products are more about form and function - clean lines, strong juxtaposition of material and color, and the functionality that goes along with a well made, well designed piece. Atticus believes that a piece should be made to last a lifetime - and in turn, employs highly skilled artisans to hand craft each piece - the good old fashioned way. Their 'ethical' side lies both in their views on employment and community, as well as on their resources. The company focuses on maintaining the highest standards for their products, materials and work environment - making it a believer in multiple bottom lines, i.e. that it's not just about the money. Sourcing sustainable resources for their products is also another focus - making these kitchen products similar to the items they contain - natural (mostly - natural but jazzed up is more like it). Selecting from their various collections, you can find some gorgeous trays, bowls, plates, and other staples for your kitchen and your bar. Atticus sure does make it easy to be stylish while shakin' up that martini.

Giving history a new twist, this collection started with the bowl style created by famed silversmith (oh, yeah, and American Revolutionary), Paul Revere himself.
Available in four colors, their ceramic collection is a little more whimsical than their traditional straight lined products. I love the soft wave to the edges - and the cup & saucer is perfect for a hot cup of tea.

Definitely NYC material - the Madison collection is sleek and contemporary in silver and black.
Probably one my favorite collections - the Cole collection - the hammered stainless steel is set off gorgeously with the rich, warm, leopard wood bases and accents.
And of course, no sustainable product line is complete without a Bamboo collection - this rapidly renewable resource is not only the material, but the inspiration for the style. Check out the awesome handles on the salad servers & the funky 'bamboo' vases.
