I think one of the biggest dangers with travel is that before you're even done with one trip, you're already planning the next... or at least, maybe that's my problem with travel! It's only been a few weeks since I've been home, but the sights and sounds of Morocco have been calling to me ever since I got back. I think it started with this amazing little boutique I saw in Vienna, filled with row after row of fabulous, gorgeous Moroccan lanterns... each more intricate and beautiful than the next. I think something I love about lanterns is that they're beautiful, they're functional, and when used, the function enhances the beauty. A few lanterns of different sizes and styles hung or placed together can make any room, corner, table top or patio look exotic, exciting, and 'decorated'. All the different styles, colors and patterns are wonderful - and when they reflect that intricately patterned light on the wall, it just transports you to a more enchanting place. There are lots of great places to find antique lanterns, and one of them is Tazi Designs in San Francisco. A wealth of Moroccan treasures, this large warehouse of a space is sure to get any 'morocco-phile' going. Another online find for all sorts of Moroccan treasures is Mosaik Interiors. And of course, there are always new variations on an old theme - these funky and updated versions of old Moroccan lanterns are light hearted and beautiful - turquoise and orange? What could be better than that!? I would give you the link, but I had found them ages ago on Domino, back in the good old days when it still existed...
And of course, if you can't get antique, another way to help reduce your impact without losing your sense of style is to go recycled, like with these lanterns from The Recycle Warehouse in the UK - stylin', sustainable and affordable...a perfect combination.
